Fireball XL5 and Land of the Giants, my all time favorite shows and ships. I have modeled the Spindrift more than any other subject.

In my opinion no kit or frankly any scratch build have accurately captured the shape or the color of the Spindrift.

The hero model which sold for $25,000 a few years ago sits in a Sci-Fi museum in Seatle, and it remains in sad shape. There were other scale models used in the show but these models have been lost to time.

Color? Well the ship is not red it's orange! Testors Go-Mango is again in my oppinion the best fit. Orange in some light red in others.

The hero ship in a shot from the "Crash".

In the mid-90s I attempted to build my first scratch build. This is plank on frame balsa-crude but I was proud of it at the time.

Balsa Spindrift under construction.

My studio scale balsa and fiberglass together-before re-construction.

After extensive surgery my balsa Spindrift. I obtained some good blueprints and cut off the engine section and increased the bow with bondo. Looks much better.

Polar Lights Spindrift in go mango and a Aurora Spindrift in Italian red.

Studio scale kit from Thermalized Plastics. It is a good kit but very innacurate.

Note how the bow is too high and does not extend out far enough.

Spindrift after bow repair. I extended the bow by one inch and droped the angle-better but not perfect. This is about all I can do with this kit.

Scratch built interior made from foam board, plastic and foam.

This ship has a LED lighting system. Four white, one blue, one red contained in the dome. And there are nine red LEDs in the engine section.

Bow shots before reconstruction.

Lunar models kit, several small resin and vacumform kits-and the "Flash Gordon" Spindrift toy

Unless someone comes out with an accurate kit, which I doubt-I will most likely start a new Spindrift based on Fox blueprints perhaps next year.

1-6-09 Finaly I have her the way I want!

These figures are from Star Wars and the "Pirates" movies. All I am missing is Chipper and Barry.

After three months of bondo addition and sanding I am very close to blueprint specs, not 100% but close.

I have also done some fiber optic lighting on the interior, and added a few books for realisim.

Classic snake kit with extras

Both my girls all re worked and properly painted. Very upset that Moebus will not produce an accurate 25" kit. A 3 inch kit come on...you can keep it.

A very rare toy, Spindrift on wheels. Sold in Japan as a Flash Gordon ship it is or was ment to be a Spindrift, it even has the "C" logo.
